I get asked on a regular basis how long my drawings take and I never have a good answer. Lame, but true, they take what they take. The longest a drawing takes depends on how easy or difficult it is to see the details in the random lines. It’s about how willing I am to find nspiration.
This baby took 2 years! I had it hanging on my wall for so long. I wanted to give up on it, but I was about 80% done when I seriously stalled out.
What I love about this drawing is the memory tied to it. I’ve had the pleasure of finding inspiration from a wonderful person in my life who showed up right when I started this drawing. The first details came right from those first months. I did grapple with wanting this drawing to grow and tell the story of the years passed, but now that it is done I am glad it is a story of the start. It is special to me to leave this one in memory form - a moment in time that spilled out onto my page.
After resolving the story this drawing tells, it was easy to finish it. Now I can look back with pride for sticking to it and seeing it through and smile to myself for what ignited this whole drawing in the first place.
